As a citizen of Australia, you may be eligible to travel to the United States under the Visa Waiver Program (VWP) as long as you meet certain criteria. This means that instead of applying for a normal visa, you can apply for an Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA) before your trip.

Eligibility Criteria

You can apply for an ESTA online if you meet the following requirements.

  • You must have a valid Australian passport
  • You must be a citizen of Australia
  • You must be traveling to the United States for medical, business, pleasure, or transit.
  • The ESTA allows for a stay of up to 90 days per visit, which you can’t extend later.
  • You must have a return ticket to Australia
  • You must have sufficient funds to support your stay in the United States.
  • Australian citizens who travel by air and sea can apply for ESTA.
