APC kiosks are “automated passport control” cubicles that allow international visitors to the US to scan their visas and passports. Furthermore, you can also submit your customs declaration forms and other biographical information electronically.

Benefits of Using APC Kiosks

With the usage of this self-service kiosk, you spend lesser time at immigration desks and with a CBP officer. Furthermore, you also do not have to fill out a physical declaration form since all these formalities can be done electronically.

If you are traveling with family members who are using the same residential address, you can use the kiosks simultaneously with them.

People who are traveling alone are able to complete the process within 90 seconds. Similarly, it takes around 4 minutes for a family of three members to complete the process at the kiosk.

To aid travelers further, you can also choose from a list of languages. The following language options are available:

  • English
  • Spanish
  • French
  • Italian
  • Korean
  • Dutch
  • German
  • Chinese
  • Japanese

Whatever data you enter into the system is submitted directly to CBP. All information remains secure and is protected using state-of-the-art technology and encryption.

Stepwise Guide to Using an APC Kiosk

APC kiosks are user-friendly machines. However, it is helpful if you are prepared for the experience.

Step 1

At a US airport, when you reach the immigration and customs section, you will be asked the visa type you are using for entering the country. From there on, if you are found eligible for using an APC kiosk, you will be guided to a separate queue.

Step 2

At the APC kiosk, select a language of your choice. Next, select the travel permit you will be used for entering the US and scan it on the machine.

Step 3

Verify your identity by scanning your fingerprints and getting a photograph taken.

Step 4

Fill out the US Customs declaration form electronically. Afterward, the machine will generate a receipt with your information on it.

Step 5

You will now have to proceed to get your receipt reviewed by a CBP officer.
